# SineWave

## class SineWave( frequency: float = 1000.0, amplitude: float = 1.0, offset: float = 0.0, )[source]

Bases: [`object`](https://docs.python.org/3/builtins/functions.html#object "(in Python v3.15)")

A sine wave at a [`VirtualScope`](https://dev.nominal.io/instro/ref/instruments/instro.scope.drivers.virtual.VirtualScope.md#instro.scope.drivers.virtual.VirtualScope "instro.scope.drivers.virtual.VirtualScope") channel’s probe tip.

Variables:
: - **frequency** ([*float*](https://docs.python.org/3/builtins/functions.html#float "(in Python v3.15)")) – Frequency in Hz, not negative. 0 gives a DC level.
    - **amplitude** ([*float*](https://docs.python.org/3/builtins/functions.html#float "(in Python v3.15)")) – Peak amplitude in volts (half the peak-to-peak value), not negative.
    - **offset** ([*float*](https://docs.python.org/3/builtins/functions.html#float "(in Python v3.15)")) – DC offset in volts.

Raises:
: [**ValueError**](https://docs.python.org/3/builtins/exceptions.html#ValueError "(in Python v3.15)") – `frequency` or `amplitude` is negative or not finite, or `offset` is not
    finite.
